DRAGON GROUP MEETING MINUTES 19 Oct 04 Present JDA DH DO(recorder) MT LB GR CV AO DG CJ Move to total VME system Renee is supportive of this proposal, and is willing to commit to normal TRIUMF support of manpower and hardware. JMP is also aware of the proposal although we ensure he is familiar with some of the details. Some discussion of analog BGO signals and sampling, instead of new ADCs. DAQ A.O. Funny triggers are gone, however now EPICS gives occasional errors. DAQ is needed in 9 days. Ion Chamber Review Safety review of chamber and new plc controls to be held 20 Oct 04. GEANT Simulation MT DG Gamma ray simulation and total DRAGON simulations are now separate but will be combined. This may take 1 week debugging. Priorities to EEC JDA Some discussion of priorities. DH has been asked by JMP to provide list of technical feasibilities independent of science priorities. Two lists were presented by JDA and discussion ensued. 22Na(p,gamma) to be done in Seattle was removed from list as a non DRAGON expt. 12C(alpha,gamma) was moved to bottom of list as an easy beam but needing significant modifications to the front end of DRAGON. Lists attached are attached but a new list will be presented next week. DSSSD stuff CV Analysis of 1 strip shows energy resolution still not sufficient to separate leaky beam. New DSSSD with thin dead layer in strips costs 7000 Euros¡Ä. Practice talk to DNP of the APS presented by CJ A session will be scheduled to allow CJ to practice a 30 minute interview talk. Priorities for DRAGON: Submission to EEC (Dec. 2004) Science Priority (Radioactive Beams) E813 15O(a,g)19Ne needs a short rationale paragraph to accompany submission E922 25Al(p,g)26Si Alan Chen will resubmit one page summary E989 26gAl(p,g)27Si Active and does not need submission, but report could be useful (CR) E989 26mAl(p,g)27Si Needs TUDA experiment initially, but could be included above by CR E811 19Ne(p,g)20Na Uwe Greife will resubmit a one page summary 22Na(p,g)23Mg Due to new data, needs remeasurement; to be submitted to EEC; Seattle exp. E946 17F(p,g)18Ne Important for hot CNO; will be resubmitted when beam possible. E810 23Mg(p,g)24Al Important for NeNa breakout to rp; will be submitted when beam possible E905 13N(p,g)14O Direct capture needs measurement; JDK suggests no submission now. E983 11C(p,g)12N Does not need to be presented now; beam not available yet. Science Priority List (Stable Beams) E952 12C(a,g)14O Considered highest priority in astrophysics; needs report (LB) 40Ca(a,g)44Ti To be subm. to EEC (CV); important for 44Ti prod. in universe Feasibility Priority List (Heavy ion Beams) E989 26gAl(p,g)27Si Active and does not need submission, but report could be useful (CR) E989 26mAl(p,g)27Si Could get enough for TUDA studies; SiC slow target, needs new tgt. E922 25Al(p,g)26Si Need to test laser source yield with SiC, then new target. E811 19Ne(p,g)20Na FEBIAD or new ECR could get sufficient beam intensity 40Ca(a,g)44Ti Needs some initial testing and 2+ beam from OLIS. 22Na(p,g)23Mg Need beam time to make implanted target for Seattle or R beam?? E983 11C(p,g)12N Depends on success of ECR/FEBIAD or E995 (Alternate App.) E905 13N(p,g)14O Depends on success of ECR/FEBIAD or E995 (Alternate App.) E813 15O(a,g)19Ne Depends on success of ECR/FEBIAD or E995 (Alternate App.) E946 17F(p,g)18Ne Important for hot CNO; will be resubmitted when beam possible. E810 23Mg(p,g)24Al Important for NeNa breakout to rp; will be submitted when beam possible E952 12C(a,g)14O Needs serious mods to DRAGON to do properly at the low energies and more intense 12C beam
