DRAGON Meeting Minutes, October 16th 2007 Present: CR (rec), CV, DH, DO, CD, LB, GR, PM, UH 0. Minutes accepted 1. Hardware Mitutoyo - DO has been working to solve problem of QSLITX: is there backlash on the drives causing EPICS to be misaligned cf. Mitutoyo, or is there an EPICS algorithm error? Need to find proof if this is an EPICS problem before go to Controls. 20% error in EPICS algorithm? Reproducible to 0.5mm between EPICS and Mitutoyo when slewing slits. 0.1% reproducibility in width. BGO - faulty unit was light tested and found to be ok. It is thought that perhaps it was under strain in the array causing a loose connection. It should be replaced and tested again in situ. DH suggests looking into buying a few replacement units. 2. Solar Cell Update VME system and VF48 cards now working. Signals were observed, but some pixels very noisy. Ground loops (120Hz) present, but playing with grounding the crates and preamps should help. When everything working, plan to commence tests with alphas at gas target position. Solar cell array is as close as can get to downstream side of Q10, where envelope is still pretty wide. This will hopefully be enough to diagnose a mistune problem - if not, then must identify other 6-inch sections where we can observe an effect. We should also try moving Q1 and Q2, given that we know they are misaligned. A plan of action needs to be worked out for this, in order to provide a reversible movement - more fixtures for Total Station? 3. EEC Submissions It was discussed what was meant by management regarding the submission of reports for pre- and post-2004 experiments for the upcoming EEC. The confusion was regarding whether full proposals should be submitted, and whether or not they would be scratched off the books if no submission was made. It has since been determined that all pre-2004 experiments should have a one-page summary submitted, stating that the science case for each experiment is still valid. 4. 22Na news UoW's latest 23Na target run was unsuccessful as they destroyed their target during exposure to 6.5C of beam. This was a 10keV implanted target. They had to hand over the accelerator for another experiment. Another 23Na target at 30 keV is under preparation. It is planned to run on a radioactive target mid-November.
