Minutes of the DRAGON meeting, 29th November 2005. ================================================== Present: JDA, CR, LF, DFOT, GR, CD, CM, DH, CV, CO, MT, AC, AH, JC, PM, DF, JEP (recorder). Hardware Status: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ DH Quadrupole-4 problems. Q4 did not move to set point when scaling applied from EPICS "Scaling Page". A one-off, can be fixed. CV Charge slit changes. Installed shield on slits so that it is possible to balance slit currents, further notes are in the Elog. Will be left intact for other runs. DO notes that connection wires near slits were blackened due to being hit by beams in different charge-states. One of the shields is sat rather precariously. Slits are limited by bellows travel and new shields should not interfere with them. Slits are slightly more open than what EPICS believes (+1.6 mm). DO Gas target leak. Manometer failed and it cannot be jumpered. This gave rise to a burst of gas and a broken CSB. Power bump also noted, although pumps kept running. Manometer and ion-gauge need to be replaced. CV New stripper foils. Carbon (laser-plasma-ablation) foils from Munich will not be tested because they require an extra step of preparation. A copper backing must be removed by floating the foil in nitric acid. Foils must be floated onto glass -> into acid -> onto mounting frame. Foil preparation group were unwilling to do this for the current run - so can't be tested right now. CV/JP Scaler problem. Not sure what exactly the problem was, now fixed. Experiment Status Reports: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ CV 40Ca status report. SiN CSB foil thrice replaced. Foil lasted 400 pnA.h. There are 12 foils left. Stripper foils to be replaced tomorrow. Leaky beam rate is lower by a factor of 100 due to buncher - attributed to a better tune. Stripper foil is the limit to the amount of beam being taken at DRAGON. CV Transparency shown, see attachment. Plan is to keep going down in energy and measuring the yield, current results appear consistent with previous literature. CO wants to map a resonance to see what the total experimental resolution is. See how far down in energy it is possible to measure first, then decide what we want to do. JDA suggests mini meeting to assess 40Ca progress. CR E989 status report. Normalisation is done. Error on main runs is 5 %, including contamination. BGO efficiency is done. Separator efficiency is also done. CSF not done. CSF measurement is due to start on December 15th. KJ believes some beam development needs to be done, then should be good to go. EEC Talks: ~~~~~~~~~~ JEP EEC practise talk. GR EEC practise talk. AOB: ~~~~ MT Status of ISAC2 beam development? They are not likely to be ready.
