Minutes of DRAGON Meeting Tuesday November 21, 2006 Present: Chris Ruiz (CR), Chuck Davis (CD), Dave Hutcheon (DH), Dave Ottewell (DFOT), Goetz Ruprecht(GR), John D'Auria (JDA), Jonty Pearson (JEP), Lothar Buchmann (LB), Peter Machule (PM), Mike Trinczek (MT), Ahmed Hussein (AH) - recorder. Meeting started 2:30 PM in TRIUMF Board Room. Minutes of November 15, 2006 approved as presented. DH reported on the new developments of 22Na experiment. JDA reported on the possible preparation of a new Gd alpha source. PM described the new support of the gas target to prevent it from moving during venting and pumping. The report followed by extensive discussion on the issue. DRAGON had access to a 20Ne beam during last weekend and the time was used to re-measure the 1159 keV/u resonance. The yield and transmission of the resonance agreed with the previous measurements to within the 2% statistical errors. During this weekend run DH tried tunes at different beam heights. JP, investigated position sensitivities and concluded that acceptance vs mistunes and concluded that there may be a need to check the alignment of the various slits. CV did some tests with the MCP detector. He looked only at the position information and found out that steering the beam gives a clear shift in the X-Y plot derived from the 4 signals from the corners of the resistive anode. It's hard to say what position resolution we can achieve, but possibly it is in the order of 3-5 mm. There were 2 noisy channels (perhaps from some cable inside the vacuum) which deteriorate the position calculation. Different foils (40 ug/cm2, 10 ug/cm2) were tested on different support meshes. So far there is no difference visible. Problems with DRAGON EPICS were discussed and DH will report them to EPICS developers. JP reported on the ongoing tests using VF48 flash ADC with PGO. GR reported on the use of VF48 with TACTIC. DH received comments on his statement on ¡ÈPriorities for ISAC in 2010-2015 and beyond¡É and will forward them to the group. DH expects that starting next week the meeting will return back to the usual time and place. Meeting adjourned at 3:20 PM.
