Minutes of the DRAGON Meeting for November 18, 2003 Present: AB, MT, JDA, DO, CJ, ML, LB, NC, DG (recorder) 1) 12C(12C,gamma)24Mg Run -run went well, the group was happy with the data -data is being brought back to York University (England) for some initial analysis -they are returning sometime in the new year (February?) for an extended run 2) TUDA 20Na(3He,p)22Mg Run -measuring the energies in states of 22Mg -possibility of seeing new states in a previous 20Na(3He,n)22Mg -similarities to recently completed experiment at Argonne 3) DRAGON 21Na(p,gamma) Run (JDA) -measure states above 0.821 MeV -energies need to be mapped out in 5-10 keV steps -it was noted that the 1.107 MeV state is ~50keV wide while the 1.079 state is approximately 10 keV wide -the astrophysics importance of these higher energy states is X-Ray bursts -1.107 MeV may be of most importance to astrophysics (LB) -the yields of these states are all high and one sees "bumps" at the resonance energies 4) Run Details for Upcoming 21Na Run -Bob Laxdal should be asked to prepare settings for a list of energies, which will be provided to him -everybody should remember to fill out run sheets -FC4 measurements should be taken every hour -gas target needs to be put in -lead needs to be put back around beam pipe at target entrance -original pumping tubes to be put back in and optically aligned -gamma array needs to be checked for gain matching of detectors -energy of incoming beam will need be measured with gas in the target -magnet settings should be recorded and compared to previous runs to check consistency -beam will likely be delivered Friday 5) Other Business -where is the turbo pump that was ordered weeks ago???? -are there any specific EPICS problems that remain that should be corrected before the next run?(MT) -should there be some criteria the group agrees on for beam quality (eg. spills, beam spot, etc) which we should insist upon from ISAC operators when energies are changed ?(DG) -does the turbo pump on the outlet side of the gas target need to be water cooled? It was failing during the 12C runs due to overheating (LB) -ISAC Forum meetings -being held in ISAC conference room every two weeks -discuss ISAC activities
