Minutes of DRAGON meeting, May 24, 2005 Present: DFOT, DH, CO, AP, CV, TK, BG, LB, JP, CR, MT, JC Recorder: JC - no objections on minutes, as they were sent out at 10:35am CV reports on 40Ca: - 100 epA, 8+ 40Ca, from hybrid surface source - very clean 40Ca beam, little 40Ar and 20Ne - tried looking for recoils, but hard to say whether any 44Ti recoils or not - fairly clean where expected 44Ti recoils lie DH reports that 27Al beam, possibly delivered tonight AO reports on scaling difficulties: - CO, CV report that the scaling routine fails by the field settings being OK, but A/E/Q being wrong ?? FCCH problems: - reports roughly half of actual beam reaching it. FCM and FCF read same values, but FCCH reads half of that. "Beam-in-a-box" testing indicate readout is fine, so it must be somewhere inside the chamber ?? DFOT reports no obvious leaks in gas target... Coming week: - 26Mg, 27Al, or possibly 40Ca depending... - 27Al requires DSSSD, no charge state booster, downstream pumping tubes don't matter for this test - possibly see if we can establish "useful" intensity of 40Ca - tentative plan: give Keerthi ~24 hrs to develop more 40Ca, then no later than Thursday switch to 27Al/26Mg - need to replace 30degree elastic monitor for 27Al(p,g) - run plan forthcoming, shift schedule as well DRAGON meetings: discussion of switching meeting place to main building conference room on first floor with built-in video capabilities. AO indicates that a "VERY CUTE" new projector is available from Melva. Decided that we will try that first. AP: GEANT simulations of 26Al(p,g)27Si transmission - finds that transmission is slightly higher for interactions that happen on the beam left (+x) by 1mm (by a few percent; question: statistically significant?) - mistune in geant simulation by -3% in Energy gives maximum transmission, but this is not a "real" problem, only a geant problem. - problem is that heavy-ion energy losses are not done properly in geant and this feature is simply not supported well, and therefore not easy to fix. - problem is not fixed from geant3 to geant4 - will check simulation with past data - Uwe's student will do DRAGON GEANT4 simulation - AO thinks AP, CR, and AO should "gang up on Peter Gumplinger" Meeting adjourns at 11:35am
