DRAGON Meeting Minutes March 4th 2008 Present: DO, CR(rec), CD, CV, UH, GR 1. Hardware/Upgrade Beamlines have finished grouting the stand - has moved 10 inches as expected. No numbers from total station measurement yet. IC aligned. Services ready to be connected back up, as well as roughing lines etc. Most pieces finished in machine shop, including DSSD box parts. Can start to connect everything back up. Pieces need to be cleaned - ultrasonic bath for welded parts, ethanol for non-welded. Ahead of schedule - will try to stay that way. 2. Aux detectors for 23Mg run Require: both surface barrier detectors, with assoc. power supplies and electronics; Beta monitor (electronics still in rack) with power supply; NaI detectors - have new ones, need power supplies and amps; HPGe detector - Gordon Ball's detector -HV already in NMR rack, need amps plus a stand to sit the detector at mass slits. New MCP electronics not vital but will plan to instrument. CR to make inventory. 3. New proposals A. Laird approached me with possible 17O(a,g) and 3He(a,g) measurements. The former is slightly larger than Dragon's acceptance at the desired energy, but could be attempted using GEANT corrections if necessary. The latter is smaller than our acceptance both for inverse and non-inverse kinematics. A 3He beam would be available at high intensities from the Supernanogan source. The desires energies are about 1.5 MeV center-of-mass. The motivation comes from discrepancies in recent measurements. UH will try to look into some more detail for next meeting to see if justified and feasible.
