Minutes of DRAGON meeting, 22 June 2004. Present: Art Olin (AO), Cybele Jewett (CJ), Christof Vockenhuber (CV), Dave Hutcheon (DH), Dave Ottewell (DFOT), Jac Caggiano (JC), John D'Auria (JDA), Jonty Pearson (JP), Kathryn Oraas (KO), Mike Anderson (MA), Peter Machule (PM), Mike Trinczek (MT) - recorder. 1. Corrections to Previous Minutes: Minutes look good. JC posted them directly to the web; there is some talk of continuing this practice. 2. Facility Status: JDA - Heinz Biegenzein has retired. Beamlines is cleaning out his work area, including unfinished DRAGON pieces, such as the Tracks for the Tail. DFOT and Hart Sprenger are looking into it. JDA - When will it be installed? DFOT/DH - Before the next run. 3. Update of the (ongoing) Run JDA - Everything looks okay. CR will be presenting preliminary results at the ISAC Science Forum tomorrow. DH - Replied to CR's email note about 26Na contamination. Concerned about the charge state distribution. JC - IC1 problem appears to now be in IC0. Problems with the ADCs? DH - We noticed some funny things with the DAQ. JC - Move to using the spare channel from the strip detector electronics. Is it too hot? (noting the recent weather) JDA - PM should find a fan. Also, check filters, wiggle cables. Much discussion. JDA - We will go to the 184keV resonance on Thursday. Might move proton beam on the target to try to increase the yield. AO - How much data are we losing because of (possible?) DAQ problems? Do we really want to go to 184keV with its much lower strength if we don't believe in the DAQ? JC - Agrees. Pointless until we solve these problems. JDA - Smaller group will discuss with CR later today. We go to the 184keV resonance on Thursday or not at all. 4. Thin Foils CV - Has them. Simple to mount, but if we break the IC window... JDA - We will do the grid tests for the MCP. CV - Are we also putting in a thin window? (~55 vs ~150mcg/cm^2) JDA - Not sure. Don't want to change too many things. AO - But then, the E resolution is poor (because of thicker foil) and we are unlikely to see anything at the 184keV resonance. What about using the DSSSD? CV - The E resolution is not any better. JC - We also lose the DeltaE/E spectrum with the DSSSD. DH - But we gain position information with the DSSSD. JC - We can also implement this with the MCP, but it has to be set up. JDA - Meet later with CR (say, at 3pm?) to discuss switching to the weak 184keV resonance, installing a thinner window, using the DSSSD, ... JC - Is there any 13C in the beam (thinking of possible explanations for what is observed in the DAQ) and how can we tell? JDA/DH - Unlikely. Can ask Bob Laxdal. 5. AOB CJ's run, starting 14 July. Discuss next week? JDA - Need to set priorities about buying things. What do we need? Detectors, NaIs, electronics, DSSSD, DAQ upgrade path, ... AO - New elog being considered, a la blog. But something even more flexible might become available. Will talk to Steve McDonald and report back.
