13 June, 2006 DRAGON Meeting minutes Present: DH, LB, CD, MT, JP, EO'C,JZ 1. Minutes of previous meeting -- approved. 2. Hardware/software Next Tuesday (20 June) there will be an all-day power outage affecting DRAGON. The computer near the gas target station does not communicate; ``something of right type'' not there - DH. The VNC viewer is reported to be ``safe'' with regards to Andrew Daviel's site-wide message according to PM as relayed by MT. 3. 12C(a,g) LB has distributed a note. He will wait until Friday for comments. 4. Recoil charge state distribution DH distributed with the agenda a ``proto-draft'' written by JZ for a NIM article. JZ showed the latest predictions based on new info on C beam charge state distributions at lower pressure. Ongoing CSD predictions: carbon beam cross-sections have been adjusted; 12.0 --> 12.8 MeV. This leads to quite good agreement with oxygen recoil ion 6+/5+ ratio data from DRAGON. The best agreement is when the recoil is assumed to have acquired none of the target electrons. How much more data should be collected before a NIM article is produced? This is tied to beam availability (see below). 5. Other Business: Bob Laxdal was intending to run Ne beam starting Thursday. This implies that we could expect to have some free time over the weekend to use Ne beam as he does not have enough man-power to run the whole time. If less than a full 3 days is available, a 12C beam would allow some clean-up measurements of charge state distributions. What needs to be done to get ready? - ion chamber replaced by the DSSSD as recoil detector - gas target should be in the right state for proton capture expts. - BGO gains have to be reset to 10 keV/channel, thresholds lowered - need beam to check that DAQ electronics are working OK DH will get in touch with Bob Laxdal to clarify possibilities.
