Minutes of the DRAGON Meeting, June 1, 2004 (MA) Attendance: DFOT, DH, CJ, LB, AO, ML, JP, GR, DG, JDA, CR, CV, KO, AR, MA(recorder) 1. FACILITY a) DFOT reported new DRAGON tail tracks under construction, design "finished" b) DH and others described a system to measure Al-26m in beam using .511 MeV annihilation gammas. This would require a "port" at the mass slit box and possibly a germanium detector. GPS and AO have one. Scattering could be and issue, and calibration could be done using Na-21 and Na-22. Where the Ge detector would go was the subject of some debate, there are some choices to make regarding which channels in the DAQ to use for what. c) The group reported that new MCP foils and 130ug windows for the IC must be made, and CV will try to "borrow" a very thin DLC foil from Vienna. d) JP reported on the electronics: the noise on IC is fixed after a cleaning, but one ADC has a problem. One channel seems to be dropped 50% of the time, which could be responsible for double peaking and elastics corruption in CJ's data. Also, the change over to a VME system was debated, and a month proposed as a reasonable amount of time to make the changeover, to be attempted at some later date. e) The PGAC was geneally discussed, and it was decided that perhaps in the fall some work could be done with it to see whether or not it will work. 2. SUMMER SCHEDUAL a) DH reported that a schedual has been submitted for approval, consisting of one two week slot in the middle of June and another in the middle of July. The foils, a scalar setup in PAW, and a system to detect Na-26 and Al26m contaminants must be completed before a run in two weeks. LB stated that an issue was the timing of the July slot, which coincides with NIC VIII. CR wants time to do contamination measurements and to run on resonance, and CJ needs time for Na-21. Exact scedualing will wait for later. 3. BGO SIMULATIONS a) DG reported on continuing simulations to understand the BGO. A high energy gamma point source is needed to check some things, including positional effects and to look at a possible general normalization factor to make GEANT simulations and actual data match. The C-12(a,g) data could also be looked at for correspondence with simulations. Also, the current setup will be checked against "full-dragon". b) AR reported on his study of the 1st and 2nd escape peaks. Previously DG had analysed the photopeak, comparing GEANT and actual data, and now AR had done this with the escape peaks. The general match up looked good, though there were some discrepancies. AO suggested the escape peak fit and the photopeak fit be compared to see which method was better. 4. AOB a) It was decided that there is no need at present for a new DSSSD 5. Meeting Adjourned 12:15pm
