From dauria@sfu.ca Wed Jan 8 08:54:36 2003 Date: Tue, 07 Jan 2003 20:01:12 -0800 From: John D'Auria To: Internal: ; Subject: DRAGON minutes 07-01-03 DRAGON Meeting Minutes for Jan 7th, 2003 Present: JR, AB(new), KN(new), AL, SB(late), SE, LB, DH, JDA, CW(scribe), DO, PM, AO 1. Happy New Year! Welcome back, and welcome to new students Aaron Bebington (Surrey) and Kathryn Neish (UBC). 2. JDA: PRL paper has been submitted. 3. JR is working on a new method of determining the energy of a resonance. Namely, using the Z-mask (to determine the position of the center of the resonance in the gas target), and the known energy loss in the gas target. Two possible methods of resonance position determination will be examined: 1) fitting a constrained Gaussian curve to the Z-mask spectrum, or 2) determining the mean position in the Z-mask spectrum. This method will be particularly useful for resonance energy determination when a full resonance scan is not performed. The accuracy of the method is limited by statistics rather than systematics. More next week. SE pointed out that stable beam runs have indicated a non-linear relationship between resonance position and beam energy in the flat portion of the gas target pressure profile. She will present figures next week. 4. DH: Magnetic dipole power supplies should be up and running in 2 weeks. Water cooling not needed! 5. DH: Beam profile monitor consisting of 48 horizontal wires and 28 vertical wires, 1mm wide each and 2mm apart has been constructed by Heinz. It will be located in the charge slit box in front of the charge slits and will aid in beam tuning. 6. PM, DO: A computer will be put in place to serve the CCD camera. More next week. 7. DO; An automatic high voltage conditioning program should be trivial according to Rolf K. 8. LB wants a non-intercepting beam current measure at the mass slits for 12C experiments to provide greater precision measurements than FC4 or the elastic monitors. A future presentation from LB outlining motivation (quantitatively) and proposed hardware was requested by JDA. 9. DH will discuss solid (graphite) target options next week. 10. CW presented motivation for top-mounted DSSSD cooling at the DRAGON end-station. It will allow better positioning of the DSSSD and better accessibility to feed-throughs. 11. Beam Requests: UG has requested 19Ne beam and JDA/JK have requested 13N beams for next beam period, 2003. Stable beam may be available as early as Feb. 15. 12. Two papers upcoming: 1) Commissioning (SE et al.), 2) 21Na(p,g): "The Other Resonances" (JDA/SB et al.). 13. AO displayed the TWIST website which opened a discussion on features that may be desirable/undesirable for the forthcoming DRAGON website. DRAGON's website will be constructed by KN. It was decided that lin01 will be used as the server for the site. [ Part 2, Application/MSWORD 30KB. ] [ Unable to print this part. ] [ Part 3: "Attached Text" ]
