Minutes of the Dragon Meeting for February 1, 2005 Present:DO,DH,JC,CV,LB,AO,WRH,GR,MT,JDA,CR,JP,PM,DG(rec.) 1) Hardware -there has been a name change of the EPICS controller computer (new name?) -ED1 is sitting about 10keV above nominal voltage (~180 kV ?) -trips from time to time -ED2 sitting with a value of about 170 kV -an icon has been added to the EPICS page to reset all interlock closed latches 2) DRAGON GEANT -dimension of the collimator geometry in GEANT is now correct up to all points along the tubes that could affect gamma detection 3) 40Ca -Keerthi has produced a 0.5 nA beam of 40Ca, 2+ out of the source -see attachment -next step is to confirm it is actually 40Ca -he is optimistic about higher currents 4) Beam Requests -26 out of 41 submitted beam requests involve OLIS -DRAGON fits in for first running in the middle of March 5) Chris ISAC Forum -Chris presented his talk for the ISAC forum about an elastic scattering detector to be mounted in MEBT -looking for approval to proceed with design -there was a comment that it would be useful to have the detector for this year which may determine the simplicity of the design -the proposal has support from Bob Laxdal 6) 22Mg Branching Rations (Cybele) -CJ presented various plots of her analysis of the branching ratios in 22Mg -an outline of the criteria for deciding which data belonged to each transition was given -the method involved fitting the appropriate number of gaussians to data -the data under each of these gaussians was then assigned to a pariticular transition and the branching ratios were calculated -there were some concerns about the method but CJ acknowledged there was still more analysis to be done 7) New Addition to the DRAGON Group Marc Huyes(sp?) -on a six month sabatical and has expressed interest in running with DRAGON but his intentions on which group he will be working with is still not completely clear 8) Summer Students -a choice has been made for atleast one summer student to work with DRAGON -her work will most likely involve the 26Al and 23Na -the question was raised whether another student is needed for 40Ca -JP and MT expressed that it would be useful to have somebody available with computing experience to work on GEANT or DAQ related items. 9) 12C+12C -JP reports progress on the analysis of 12C+12C at York 10) Gamma Ray Array Paper -DG gave a brief overview of his thoughts for a gamma ray array paper to be submitted to NIM -see attachment -some discussion on what should be included proceeded. -DG agreed to prepare a rough draft and then more decisions on content would be made
