Minutes of DRAGON meeting, August 31st, 2004. ------------------------------------------ Present: DH, DO, AO, JP, JC, CJ, KO, GR (recorder) 1. Correction to previous minutes --------------------------------- DH has a list of corrections. KO will put the corrected version on the minutes web page. 2. Status/progress reports -------------------------- - DAQ - JP was almost busy with his crashed laptop hard disk and the installation of the new disk. - Found a bug in his DAQ code. Receives TDC header without following data. - Another bug: If the heavy ion rate exceeds the gamma rate the system will be locked which looks as the system is crashed. - Magnet P/S - C. Reineger still on vacation till Sept. 9th. - YSLITM - JC checked the FC and slits. Still not sure, but there it seems that the drive has a too much play. However, it's ready for pump down. - ED1 - JC ordered the new boards. They can't find 110 Ohm carbon resistors (only 120). - PGAC - JC was playing around with the anode resistors to see why the signals of the fission fragments are clipping too early. Unfortunately they didn't change. - Wants to order a 252Cf source (500 $). Are there sources available? - JP: We must ask Pat Walden for The TUDA triple alpha source. It's not usable for DRAGON - the three lines are too close. - DH/AO discussing about other groups that are interested in a source as well. - IC gas system - DO presents a hand drawing (see attachment) and explains details of the GHS. The leftmost part is not working yet but the right side seems to work. - What happens in the case of an explosive event? DH got email from Cam Marshall: The damage depends strongly on the kind of the "bang". It is hard to tell what happens. Depends on e.g. whether parts are shot around. - In order to avoid sparkling wires in isobutane Robert Openshaw will try to set up a high voltage interlock. - Catania Detector - AO: The problem of multiple lines is obviously a cooling problem of the preamp boards. - What can be used for cooling? Ethylene-Glycol as for TUDA? 3. New business --------------- - fall/winter beam schedule (DH) - September is for E991 - DRAGON has the first October week. - Then 2 weeks for Li people and 1 week for the Lovaine people - Perhaps last October week available - CCD meets EM1/FC4/FCM2 (KO) KO gives a report (see attachment) how far the beam current can be derived from the CCD. CCD values can only be compared with same exposure times. However, it is hard to see a correlation of CCD and EM0 or FCM2 for the last 12C(a,g) run.
