Minutes of DRAGON Meeting of April 16, 2002 Present: JR, DO, DH, AL, FS, SE, CW, AO, PM, SJ, JDA (recorder) 1) Minutes of Meeting of April 9, 2002...accepted with no corrections 2) Review of DRAGON Activities of Previous Week a. effective length of gas target measured using smaller collimators (1.5 mm diameter) and the new value is 1.12 x 11 cm = 12.3 cm; error needs to be estimated. b. only modest Mg beam available ( < 500 epA of 6+); Kerthi will be given time to increase it c. have run Mg for several hours and do have some data d. power outrage over the weekend; checklist for startup needs further attention e. red hot-line phone number to reach ISAC is 222-2673 f. DTL needed further tuning for proper running 3) Big Picture for Scheduled RB and Stable beam running a. ISAC has TIS problems, e.g., P/S on extraction electrode broken b. do not expect RB before end of the week. c. still need about 2 days of stable beam running with Mg d. could run Mg reaction at different pressures to measure omega gamma, time permitting e. could also run Mg reaction at lower resonance energy, again time permitting 4) ISAC Beam Energy a. beam delivered by ISAC is now closer to correct energy as measured by MD1 NMR 5) DRAGON paper A paper has been drafted by JR and some aspects were presented by JR. This paper is on the designing, building, installing, and operations of DRAGON. JDA is the editor. JR presented three figures from paper showing data on the thick target yield as a function of beam energy for the several resonances.
